Udupi washroom video row: NCW dismisses rumours over hidden cameras

Amidst the ongoing row over the Udupi washroom video incident, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Khushbu Sundar, Thursday dismissed rumours of hidden cameras in the college restroom. On July 18, three students of a paramedical college in Udupi were suspended for allegedly filming other students by hiding a camera in the girls’ washroom. Responding to media queries Thursday on whether the rumours are true, Sundar said, “Absolutely not. That is why I said that if there are rumours of hidden cameras in the toilet. Please understand there is nil (evidence), nothing to it. There is a rumour which is going around, false videos which are going around.” Since it is an educational institution, there cannot be any hidden cameras, Sundar said. Congress demands action against Udupi DC T K Swaroopa for waving saffron flag, she says no political motive

A political row has erupted in Karnataka after Udupi Deputy Commissioner T K Swaroopa was seen waving a saffron flag during an event of the Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi Sunday. The legal and human rights department of the Udupi district Congress has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking action against the official for waving “an RSS flag”. The BJP has highlighted the letter to accuse the Karnataka Congress government of being anti-Hindu. Swaroopa, meanwhile, said that she had flagged off the event in her capacity as the administrator of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC). The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday when a procession was taken out from Jodukatte to Sri Krishna Mutt as part of a biannual ‘Paryayotsava’. “Prior to the procession, Udupi (BJP) MLA Yashpal Suvarna handed over the RSS flag to the DC. DC lifted the flag and exhibited it,” noted the complaint by Harish Shetty, president of the Udupi Congress legal and human rights department.
